Los Angeles, CA – Let the battle begin! Play is what children’s museums do best, and two of them are about to take playtime online.

Taking a cue from the race to 10,000 Facebook likes that the California, Arizona, and Washington, DC state arts agencies participated in last fall, two California children’s museums- the Zimmer Children’s Museum in Los Angeles and the Sacramento Children’s Museum- are starting their own Facebook challenge on February 1st. In this age-old battle between NorCal and SoCal, who will come out on top?

The two museums have agreed on a slightly less ambitious goal than their state art agency friends- a race to 250 new Facebook likes. Each museum will create a goodie box filled with items and foods specific to their region of California. Both boxes will be raffled off to one of the last 250 people who liked the winning museum.

With an amazing outpouring of community support, our Founding Partners and our ever-growing Museum Family we are excited to embark on the construction phase of the Museum. Roebbelen Construction has been contracted to build the Museum in Rancho Cordova which was recently named one of ten “All American Cities of 2010”.

Together with SCM Founding Partners: City of Rancho Cordova, Junior League of Sacramento and Roebbelen Construction; we thank our community for making this dream a reality for our parents,
caregivers, teachers and children of all ages!

We anticipate a Summer 2011 opening and hope that you will join us for our Grand Opening Event. SCM will announce the event date in soon—stay tuned!

]]><![CDATA["Hot Moms and Cool Kids" Strut Their Stuff At Fashion Show]]>Sun, 01 Aug 2010 00:00:00 -0800http://www.sacramentochildrensmuseum.org/1/post/2010/08/hot-moms-and-cool-kids-strut-their-stuff-at-fashion-show.htmlMoms and children strode in fashionable attire on a pink and white striped runway last Friday to raise funds for the Sacramento Children’s Museum.

A couple hundred people gathered at 33rd St. Bistro in Midtown to support the fundraiser for the museum that begins demolition today. Ten dollar tickets benefited the museum directly.

Sponsors Koukla Kids Boutique, M.E. Boutique, Firefly Salon and Boutique and 33rd St. Bistro began planning the event only three weeks ago. Kathryn O’Connell, co-owner of Koukla Kids, said they saw a need for a fundraiser to benefit a place that could be fun, safe and educational for children of the Sacramento area.

]]><![CDATA[Children's Museum To Build In Rancho Cordova]]>Tue, 21 Apr 2009 00:00:00 -0800http://www.sacramentochildrensmuseum.org/1/post/2009/04/childrens-museum-to-build-in-rancho-cordova.htmlThe Sacramento Children’s Museum has selected a site in Rancho Cordova to build the planned 7,000-square-foot hands-on, interactive center.

The city of Rancho Cordova and the museum board announced Tuesday that the region’s newest family-oriented attraction will locate at 2701 Prospect Park Drive in Rancho Cordova, next to City Hall.

Roebbelen Contracting Inc. is the general contractor and has donated $100,000 in services.

Backers need to raise $1.3 million to open the museum in January. In a month, the museum has raised more than $56,000.

Representatives from the city and the museum “have been negotiating for almost a year, developing the partnership that gave life to the vision of having a children’s museum in Rancho Cordova,” a news release said.
